Not the usual pub, not the usual restaurant, not the usual music.
In the magical atmosphere of Milan’s canals, in April 2018 Bricks was reborn.
And even though the building is in the heart of Milan’s night life, our mind goes elsewhere, to the magic of New York. The space in itself has great character. The materials and colours suggest a New York loft; airy, with big windows and that industrial feel typical of the Big Apple.
And yet we are still in Milan, and the proposal that is put to us is quite different: Bricks is a multifaceted centre for adults and children where play and sports are the main component.
Different functions, different intended uses of the space means more lighting.
One diffuse, one for effects. It was decided to highlight the bricks by creating beams of light on the walls, the communication, the play areas, and especially the bar area, the hub of the venue.
In this area we put four light strips which divide up the space horizontally: the first is functional, for the staff to work in, lighting the back of the bar to enable comfortable and efficient service. Two more light strips were used for the shelf above the back bar: one is aimed to pick out the bottles and products on offer, the other downwards onto the work surface. The last LED strip draws the eye to the front of the bar, marking it out from the surroundings.
The whole lighting system boasts the ability to control brightness levels and create different scenarios to suit the mood. Bricks is never the same as itself.
